Here is a huge news flash: stop paying outrageous prices for those brand name perfumes! Sure they have celebrity faces endorsing them and a particular perfume bottle may catch your eye, but that does not mean they are always the best value or the best product for you or your budget. Perfumes and colognes come in imitation brands that may just surprise you with their great value and their incredible cornucopia of fragrances.
Most popular brand name perfumes have what is known as an imitation brand that is a dead ringer for the original. Many professional “sniffers” cannot tell the difference between the two. Some of the perfume imitations smell even better and last longer than the original versions. You can find these bargains at many women’s fashion stores, such as Fashion Bug, Cato or other small scale, lower end retail shops.
A second alternative is to go with an essential oil combination that fits your taste and lifestyle. After all, a perfume or eau de parfum is made up of essential oils and fragrances that are combined with alcohol to create the unique scent. You can make your own mix at many online stores or specialty shops. You can have your own line of fragrances that are specialized just for you. Try out different scents to create something that is totally your own style and do not be afraid to try different combinations. Just remember that essential oils are highly concentrated, so a little bit will go a long way. Use the perfume sparingly in order not to overpower everyone else in the room or to irritate your own senses and skin.
Some people cannot go without brand name perfumes. That is fine, but there is still no need to pay those outrageous department store prices. There are some tips for buying perfumes and colognes at a discount. One way is to buy them online at such places as Perfumania.com. The second is to buy gift sets when the holidays roll around. Usually the fragrances are marked down substantially. You may not get a huge bottle but you will get a bath gel and body lotion at a pretty reasonable price. Saving money and getting your favorite scent makes it smell all the more sweet.

Have you ever played Secret Santa at Christmas time? It is a game where you pick someone and give them a gift anonymously. Well, it is a lot of fun until you wind up with a bottle of perfume your great grandmother would not wear. Buying perfume for a stranger is a risky business. You never quite know what they are going to like. However, if the gift is for a friend or family member, then shopping for perfumes and colognes can be a little easier.
Buying perfume for someone else begins with observation of what they typically wear. This includes clothing, make-up and their regular perfume and cologne. She may be a body lotion type of person, so you have to keep that in mind, as well as what types of clothing and fragrances are worn during the day, versus at night. A person who tends to dress-up more will typically wear bolder fragrances. Someone who wears more casual clothing might wear a softer, more subtle fragrance. This will also change if dressing to the nines for an evening on the town. Different occasions call for different scents.
If you still cannot decide on a particular scent for someone, then you can go the sneaky route and ask someone in their household what they typically wear and then find something either similar or buy the exact brand of perfume and cologne they usually purchase. It may not be the most original idea but it could save you money if you were to pick a totally off fragrance that they would not want to wear. Oh, and one further note. Some people are allergic to more concentrated scents, such as those found in eau de parfum and essential oils, so keep this in mind if you know the person has sensitive skin. You may want to go with a body lotion of their favorite scent instead of the perfume version.
Go ahead and get some perfume for that special someone in your life. They will appreciate the gesture no matter if they really like the fragrance or not. If you have done your homework and played detective, then you will have unearthed a scent that they will like and will wear. If all else fails, then you can always buy her a gift card so she can get the perfume of her choice.

A rose is just a rose, but a fragrance is not just a fragrance. There is a distinct difference between a perfume, an eau de parfum and an eau de toilette. If you are going shopping for some new fragrances, then you should know the differences between the three. Perfumes and colognes are abundant and you could get lost in all the different choices currently on the market. So know the differences in the types and you will be able to narrow down the playing field.
There are three bottles standing on a department store counter arranged according to size. The tallest one is called an eau de toilette. It is often confused with being a perfume when in fact it is more like a body splash or similar in scent to a body lotion. The second biggest is the eau de parfum. The third bottle is quite a bit smaller than the other two and is a perfume. Now, on to the subtle, or not so fragrantly subtle, differences.
The toilette water is a less concentrated fragrance that typically contains 1-6% concentration of perfume. It is meant to be a light and short lasting fragrance, typically like a body splash or spray mist that is found in after-shower products and also found in body lotion products. The second bottle, the eau de parfum, is the most common type of fragrance. It is more expensive than the toilette water and contains typically 7-15% perfume concentrate. The third and much smaller bottle is the actual perfume itself. It is also known as extract or extrait perfume and is 15-40% concentrate. It is the most expensive version of the three and lasts the longest, and is typically used with an atomizer and/or used very lightly on pulse points to minimize the overwhelming impact they can have on the senses.
Now you know the difference between the perfume, the eau de toilette and the eau de parfum. You should be able to go into any department or online store and order with confidence because you will know when you are getting a good buy and when you are being ripped off.
